ABOUT TEXAS MAES
Our Mission
Our mission is to ignite a passion for STEM while providing opportunities for and support for under-served students to grow into leaders of their communities. Texas MAES provides a wide variety of academic, outreach, and professional development opportunities for students such as resume reviews, leadership development conferences, networking events, finals study nights, bowling, game nights, and potluck-night socials! There are even scholarship opportunities available through our National MAES chapter!
Our Name
If you are wondering why Texas MAES is short for Texas Latinos in Science and Engineering, do not freight. Our name used to stand for Mexican Americans in Engineering and Science. To be more inclusive, it was changed to Latinos. Our particular chapter’s official name through UT (Texas Latinos in Engineering and Sciences) is slightly different from the national name due to UT copyright regulations.

To keep it simple, we go by Texas MAES.
Science Extravaganza
A Science Extravaganza, or SE, is a Nationwide MAES initiative committed to promoting careers in STEM to underserved students (grades 6-12). With SE, students are able to engage in STEM experiments, presentations, professional workshops, among other activities. To give students an inside look into college life, campus tours, dorm tours, and sometimes lecture sit-ins are available to students as an SE activity. The ultimate goal of SEs is to foster leaders in STEM.
Member Input
We highly value input from our members. That is why we send out surveys regarding scheduling, availability, general check-ins, and more. All surveys are anonymous and optional. We do our best to not bombard members with surveys but send out just enough to hear their voices and opinions.
